Clayton looked forward to going on this campout with his own son(s) and he was always optimistic and positive that one day we would have children to make these memories with. Until this year he hadn't considered taking Adam just because he was too young and the campout is always held in September when the weather is quite chilly in the canyon at night. So this time around with Adam being a little bit older, he was really excited about getting to go to Father's and Sons for the first time.
.
Fast forward to Friday, the day of the campout....Clayton had been torn between going and staying here to help with the baby. (seriously, he is that awesome!) All week long we had been debating back and forth whether they should go but being the great husband that he is, he opted to stay home and help me saying that there was always next year.
.
Sooooo we decided to do the next best thing
.
and hold a Father's and Sons in our own backyard.
.
It turned out to be the best idea ever. Adam was so excited I thought he was going to pop. He couldn't wait to "Roast Mellomarshs" with dad and sleep in a tent. And this way if I needed Clayton, he was only a few feet away in the yard to help out.
.
.
They put up the tent and then went and picked up dinner (Adam's choice of McDonald's) and brought it back to their tent so they could eat inside it together.
.
.
They wrestled and played for a bit inside it.
.
.
They pretended to "sleep" and asked me to take a picture
.
.
.

Finally it was time to start a fire, roast marshmallows and make s'mores
.
Adam even got to roast his own marshmallows, I lost count at how many he ate..he was shoveling them in his mouth faster than I could blink. Not to mention the box of graham crackers and numerous chocolate bars that he snarffed down....thank goodness we don't do this every day!
.
They invited me out to join them for the marshmallow roasting so Coop and I got to hang out with them for a little bit.
.
.
Cooper's first Father's and Sons experience was the best...he wore his 'I heart Dad' shirt to show his excitement :)
.
Then came the silliness induced by 1oo marshmallows, a box of graham crackers and a giant chocolate bar
.
After he burned off the sugar rush it was time for jammies so he and his dad could get settled in their tent for the night
.
.
This was the last picture I got before they zipped up the door and blew me goodnight kisses
.
.
They lasted exactly 2 hours before admitting defeat and coming inside. Apparently Adam was worried about Cooper. He also didn't stop talking that entire 2 hours and Clayton was beginning to wonder if there would be an sleep happening.
Finally Adam admitted that he wanted to sleep in his own bed so Clayton brought him inside, tucked him in and came over to join me on the couch.
.
I asked him if he was disappointed.
.
He said "Are you kidding me? ....No way.....that was the best night ever and I can't wait until Cooper can join us :)
