But Family Home Evenings with our family are crazy. Adam is usually bouncing off the walls and not listening to a word we are saying. It's really hard to get him to sit still... he is 3 after all! We make our lessons short (about 10-15 minutes) in hopes that he can pay attention for that long. The last several weeks we have been focusing our lessons on kindness, love, and good manners. So tonight to go along with our previous lessons Clayton had prepared a lesson on reverence.
We couldn't wait to see how Adam would behave because this time we were armed with a secret weapon.
Thanks to a comment made at church on Sunday I was given a fabulous idea. One of the ladies mentioned that she once made a reverence badge for the primary kids to help them settle down quickly and be quieter. She would pick a child that was being reverent to be her "Reverence Helper" and that child would get to wear the reverence badge during primary and show, by example, what it meant to be reverent. She said that she saw a remarkable change in the children as they all tried their best to be reverent.
This afternoon I made the first official Harwood family reverence badge.
Clayton took it out at the beginning of his lesson tonight and he immediately had Adam...hook, line and sinker.
We had a fabulous family home evening lesson on reverence. Adam sat on the couch with his arms folded the entire time.
He was so proud and excited to wear the badge and took his role as reverence helper very seriously. He participated in the lesson and answered all of Clayton's questions and we could see that he was actually listening!

We will now be using our new reverence badge at every family night from now on and are thinking about making a smaller badge to use during sacrament on Sundays!

I'm going to have to try this one out. Liam is all over the place during our FHE! Great idea!
That is the cutest idea! Nice work!!! :) I might have to try that one of these days.
That's awesome!!! You should make reverence badges for the car...shopping cart...movies... :)
I can't tell you how many times we have questioned..."why are we even doing this?" or "Are they even getting any of this?" The good news is they do and they will always have those memories of their mom and dad doing what was important and they will do it too!!! You guys are such good parents! Love you all!!!
