Spotlight: Steve and Jenny

HOW WE MET:
.
Steve and I met our senior year of High School. We had a lot of the same friends. We had a data processing class together, but didn’t talk much then. However our next semester we had a psychology class together. I sat right by him and we talked often, and kind of had a silent crush on each other. A group of us did a research paper on the effects of Sleep Deprivation where we went with out sleep for 3 days straight. After this, we talked on the phone a lot, we saw movies, went bowling, and rode ATV’s. We did a lot of hiking together. We soon became best friends, which is something that has sustained us through rough spots in life. We spent as much time together as summer was coming to an end and he was going to college in Idaho. I was attending Utah Valley State College(Now UVU.) We talked on the phone and wrote letters while in school. And later, for two years, just wrote letters as Steve served and LDS mission in Frankfurt,Germany. Six months after his return we were engaged and will celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary in March. And like the song “we’re still havin fun, and you’re still the one!”

KIDS:
.
We have two biological children. Ashley is almost 12. She’s fun energetic, creative, and is an amazing writer! She likes skiing, hiking, camping and loves Donkey Kong! Nathan is almost 10. He loves being outdoors. Cars, jeeps, trucks, and anything that goes is always on his mind! He is affectionate, silly and loves to tease. He’s very friendly and says “Hi” to everyone. After Nathan was born with many health issues and was diagnosed with Beckwith Wiedmann Syndrome, which stems from genetics we discovered that the best way to grow our family is through adoption. And we are so EXCITED about OPEN adoption!

THINGS WE LOVE TO DO:
.
We love hiking, biking, camping and playing games together! We love traveling! Some of our highlights from last year were visiting family in Detroit, going to St.Louis and then Nauvoo. Lake Powell, which is a family tradition. South Dakota, and Kauai. Water sports are what we love during the summer, and skiing; sledding is our choice during the winter! Laughing and being with our friends and family are our best memories!
.
.
We feel so blessed to have two wonderful children in our home! We love being their parents! Having a child with special needs has taught us so much. Though difficult to accept at first, we have come to learn valuable lessons. Our hearts are more open to love, and our perspectives are a little bit more eternal. We can’t wait to meet our birth parents, learn about them and just LOVE them. Because after all, isn’t that what open adoption is all about – LOVE?
